One pattern, multiple outfits

It’s amazing how much can be made from one pattern! So far I’ve managed three mock playsuits – of which you’ve seen one so far – two pairs of culottes and a blouse from Simplicity 1334.

The fabrics are from Lucky Fashions (pineapples and Swiss Dot floral print) and B&M Fabrics (viscose print on white and Dutch wax print).

The crinkly jersey that the culottes are made from was a surprise find at The Shuttle (Shipley). It isn’t the easiest fabric to work with but drapes beautifully.  For these I just added 1cm at the side seams and straightened out the inside and outside leg seams. No hemming was needed as I cut on the cross grain/knit and used the selvedges.

I’ll write this up as a tutorial soon. They are perfect for paddling, climbing and twirling in!

All too often, girls’ ready to wear clothes are impractical or uncomfortable and shorts are too short for my girls’ liking. Making clothes for them is a privilege and helps resolve some of these frustrations. It also helps them see how much work goes into a garment and allows them to take an important role in designing their clothes.
