Pineapple playsuit

Simplicity 1334 in pineapp

The Smaller Small has made her choice! She asked for a t-shirt in the pineapple print that I bought  last week in Dewsbury.

My inspiration for this make comes in part from the Sewcialists August challenge –  Tribute Month  – so this is my tribute to Gabby, Megan and their shared love of fruit prints!

My go-to pattern for woven tops for the girls is Simplicity 1334 (I have age 7-14 but it’s also available for age 3-6). It’s a fairly loose fit so I’ve found I can skip the zip (hurray!), leave the top 10cm of the centre back seam and add a button or other fastening at the neckline (in this case, a small plastic snap fastener).

There was just enough fabric to include a shortened version of the trousers, cut just above the knee, so it can be worn as a mock playsuit.

There wasn’t time to thread the elastic through the shorts this morning so the Smaller Small wore her new top with pineapple print trousers! My next project is a blouse in Swiss dot cotton and a top and trousers for the Big Small in Dutch wax print.

From now on, I’m aiming for a couple of short posts each week, rather than long ones with big gaps. We’ll see how that goes! Mostly I hang around on Instagram as it’s so easy on the move and is generally a positive,  inspiring place to be.
