Me Made May 2017: Week 1

For Me Made May this year, I pledged to ‘wear at least two me-made items each day for the duration of May 2017 and to take stock of my wardrobe, filling gaps with slow, sustainable me-made garments.’

To help me look at what i have  (and haven’t)  worn-  and in case it helps anyone else aiming towards a handmade wardrobe-  I’ve decided to post a weekly round-up here of my outfits.

Day 1: Tilly and the Buttons Cleo over a Sew Over It Molly top with RTW bamboo jersey leggings from Thought Clothing

Day 2: for a Pilates class, the Molly top again, with  Megan Nielsen Virginia Leggings and a Sew House Seven Toaster Sweater 2. Afterwards I changed into the Cleo dress again, this time over a self drafted tee and with a Sew Different Cocoon Jacket. 20170502_173544

Day 3:  Ruffled  Seamwork Hayden in striped cotton shirting with Kommatia Patterns TR803 jeans.

Day 4: Self-drafted tee with Kommatia jeans

Embroidery inspired by Free As A Bird Blue Moon by Cloud9 Fabrics, used to line the front pockets.

Day 4:  Seamwork Hayden in silk and Liberty Tana Lawn with a Moss Skirt and Cocoon Jacket.

Day 6: Facilitating an antenatal course session and then heading over to Blackburn for the Festival of Making on a chilly day made layers essential. It had been very warm earlier in the week but changed suddenly!

Jennifer Lauren Gable Top (as a sweater) over a Marilla Walker Roberts Collection  dungaree dress and striped shirting Hayden top with ruffles. No comments were made on the quality of my sewing (phew) but Patrick makes a good cup of tea and good conversation! It was surreal but lovely to meet him and find out more about Community Clothing. Our girls had both chosen fabrics from my stash for their squares in the community quilt, organised by Jenni, Kay and friends.

Day 7: for church and a shared lunch, the Roberts Collection dress over a Fancy Tiger Crafts Sailor Top with a Cocoon Jacket  (I have two garments made from each of these three patterns and wear them a lot, as you will see!)

To my right you can see a garment in progress. I’m also preparing for Yarndale, which is very exciting. More on both of these will follow soon!

Do please leave a link to your blog/vlog/ instagram feed if you’re joining in with Me Made May. I’d love to see what you’re wearing this month. I’ve started to use an extra hashtag so I can track my Instagram posts for this theme.
