Joining the Simple Sew Bloggers network last year was really exciting for me. Having sewn largely on my own for many years it’s really special to discover the social side of sewing, encourage others in their learning and learn from them. As a group we all have very different styles and a wide range of experience in dressmaking (from a couple of years to 30 plus!).
In November, as many of us as were able made the (grey, wet) journey to Manchester to meet each other, Claire, who started Simple Sew and Gabby who keeps us all cheerful and organised. I was thankful for Corrinne’s company as we navigated the tram system.
We enjoyed some food, a bit of pampering, having our hair and make up done (which for me is very rare; I don’t think anyone has done my make up since we got married in 2006!) and then had the chance to model some of our Simple Sew projects. This was a very new experience for me; I’m not at all at ease in front of a camera and generally try to hide behind one.
You’ll probably recognise most of these makes from previous posts. They are:
The Shannon Dress in Spirograph-like print jersey from The Shuttle, Shipley
The Charlotte Dress in eyelet cotton from Samuel Taylor, Leeds and lined with organic cotton batiste
The Lizzie Dress in wax print from Leeds Markets
Later in the day we heard more about the business and discussed future plans. It was a really positive and encouraging time. Here we all are in a selection of our Simple Sew creations! Do look out for more from the team as we make a fresh start for the New Year.
